Heavy Sanctions Imposed on Kapenguria United Following Match Abandonment
The FKF Upper Rift Leagues & Competitions Committee has taken decisive disciplinary action against Kapenguria United FC after fan violence led to the abandonment of their Division II clash against Chebaiywa FC.
The incident occurred on 21st April 2025 at Chewoyet Grounds, where the match was called off in the 90th minute following an alleged attack on Chebaiywa’s goalkeeper by Kapenguria United supporters.
After thoroughly reviewing reports from the match officials, the Committee concluded that misconduct by Kapenguria United fans was directly responsible for the disruption. As a result, the club now faces a series of stern penalties:
- Match Forfeiture: Chebaiywa FC has been awarded the match and full points.
- Points Deduction: Kapenguria United loses an additional three points and three goals.
- Venue Ban: Chewoyet Grounds has been barred from hosting FKF fixtures. Kapenguria will now play home matches at Ndura Sports Complex, Kitale — behind closed doors.
- Monetary Fine: A fine of Kshs. 50,000 has been levied on the club.
- Player Suspensions: Ramadhan Bashir and Charles Obunga have each been suspended for one year.
- Technical Bench Ban: Assistant Coach Branwel Torotich is barred from attending the remainder of the season’s fixtures.
- Medical Expenses: The club is required to cover medical bills for nine Chebaiywa players, their head coach, and team doctor.
- Property Damages: Kapenguria United must also pay for repairs to Chebaiywa FC’s damaged team vehicle.
These sanctions serve as a stern warning against misconduct and reinforce FKF’s commitment to upholding discipline, safety, and fair play within Kenyan football.
